![3dqvamns[1]1.png](images/Img13.gif) Numerous studies have found that a
psychologist's ability to help people appears to be more of
an intuitive art than an actual science. There are several
reasons why psychology has been unable to live up to it's
potential.
A primary reason is that the techniques
of psychology mainly deal with the cortex - the thinking part
of the brain. In human beings, the cortex is unique and the
most developed in the animal kingdom. However, our
human brains also contain a more primitive structure - the
"reptilian" brain. The reptilian brain's innate protection
mechanisms have helped human beings survive millions of years as a
species. Unfortunately, when we are under stress or
experiencing extreme emotions, such as love, these protection
mechanisms tend to interfere with the operation of our cortex, or
rational brain. During times of stress, these protection mechanisms
are programmed to dominate our rational thinking brain. Hence, many
of the so-called psychological problems that people have (including
depression) are actually due to interference from the reptilian
brain.
The challenge for psychologists has always been how to
create a situation where one is no longer a slave to their
protection mechanisms. Unfortunately,
analyzing problems or trying to intellectually decide how to get out
of this trap does very little to change this innate wiring in our
brains. For instance, it is quite common for a psychologist's
patient to know intellectually what his or her problems are; but
even with this knowledge, most keep making the same mistakes over
and over again. This is especially true in the case of love
relationships, where it is common to repeat the same mistakes
with each new partner. Most of us would agree that the
goal of growth is to somehow change our orientation from one of
protection to one of love and openness.
The question
then becomes, "How can we effectively
'rewire' our brains so that we can more fully become the person that
we know we are or would like to be?"
Having had thousands of sessions both with individuals and with
groups, Dr. Landrith has come to the conclusion that we need a
holistic approach in order to achieve the growth that we all desire.
Dr. Landrith achieves this goal by teaching his clients various
tools so that they can, in essence, "heal themselves." In
essence his orientation could be considered that of a
Life Coach.
Life coaching is a new way
of looking at self-development that contrasts greatly with
traditional psychology. Traditional Psychology generally looks at
our limitations and attempts to find ways to get us back to a
more normal state of functioning.
Life coaching takes people
who are functioning normally but want to go further and achieve a
life of abundance and wisdom. To achieve this, life coaching
utilizes a number of techniques, like visualization and positive
thinking as well as energy work, to generate a whole new pattern of
thoughts that allows us to create something new out of our lives.
Typically life coaching is oriented around the client’s career, love
relationships, finances, personal development and/or life goals
as well as releasing the blocks to this growth.
The idea that the mind can help us manifest miracles in one’s
life is not a new one. In fact, there have
been numerous scientific studies that have proven beyond a shadow of
doubt that what we think becomes our reality. For instance, a
recent study demonstrating the effectiveness of Prozac on children
suffering from depression found that nearly 69% of them improved
with Prozac. At first glance, those numbers
suggest that this drug has a large effect. However, what is even
more intriguing is that the control group, which was given a placebo
sugar pill, depression improved by nearly 59%. In short, the
sugar pill generated nearly the same benefits, as did a very
powerful drug. This is an excellent example of the power of the
mind, as these kids became happier because they thought they were
taking a drug! Another example of the power of our thoughts is found
in scientific results from prayer and group meditation research, in
which it was found that just by thought alone we can help change the
world for the better (click here for the
section “About Dr.
Landrith” for a more thorough discussion of these mind blowing
studies). These results have been replicated in numerous scientific
studies and demonstrate quite clearly that what we think can make a
huge difference in our life!
Unfortunately, many of us have hidden negative thought
patterns that interfere with our ability to move forward in
life. These patterns generate all kinds of barriers, including
the inability to love fully, overachieving (especially as a
subconscious way of avoiding love relationships), underachieving,
depression, addictions, weight problems, midlife crisis, life out of
balance, and the inability to make life changes. However, trying to
change a negative pattern to one that embraces positivity is not the
easiest thing to do. Many people have tried to be positive in their
thoughts and have found that it is extremely difficult, if not
impossible, to change negative patterns. This problem is confounded
even further by the fact that much of our negative thought
patterns are actually in our unconscious, so that we are not totally
aware of them. Most of us had dysfunctional childhoods and
hence quite often these subconscious blocks were picked up
in our early childhood because we never thought we were worthy
enough to be loved. To help us understand why it is so difficult to
change these patterns, a further clarification of how the brain
works is needed.
The brain is basically electrical in nature and its cells
communicate by electrical stimulation through particular neuronal
pathways. Most of these pathways were developed in early childhood
and thus, have become firmly entrenched in our brains. Since most of
us have experienced some form of dysfunctional family life or trauma
during our youth, these negative pathways have become our
normal way of operating. In addition, since our brains are wired for protection, this makes it even
more difficult for us to be open enough to heal or
change these old pathways. This is the reason why we so often
avoid the very thing that will heal us.
So the question becomes, “How can we get more benefit from
positive thoughts?” The secret to adding more influence with a positive thought
is to expand the mind so that it operates in an entirely different
way. This process is facilitated greatly by techniques such as
self-hypnosis and meditation, as well as with nutrition and
energy work like EFT (see next section for EFT
explanation). What is even more incredible is that these
revolutionary techniques can actually create totally new brain
pathways, so that we are not bound by the same negative brain
pattern that has haunted us for so many years. These various
techniques also teach us how to increase our awareness, so that we
can tell when we are caught up in a negative pattern. But the key
point is that thru these techniques, we can actually create new
brain pathways! This makes our thoughts more powerful so that when
we have a positive thought, it has a more fertile ground to work
with. Dr. Landrith will help us learn how to expand our mind
and then use visualization techniques to help us create new patterns
that will serve us better on our
journey. By changing the wiring in our brain from one of protection to
one of openness and love, we drastically improve our ability to
create miracles with our thoughts!
He uses three unique
approaches to achieve this goal, by helping clients: 1) enhance the
experience of their own particular spiritual path 2) improve their
health and brain development through nutrition and energy work, and
3) learn how to tune into their own inner wisdom through greater
intuition and positive visualization.
Dr. Landrith's
intuitive approach varies with each client. Typically, he uses
stress management techniques, EFT or the Tapping Technique,
visualization techniques, meditation, and self-hypnosis as the
foundation for life transformation. These techniques vary depending
on the needs and particular spiritual orientation of the client. He
is especially concerned with nutrition and health issues as a way to
enhance life changes. For these, he uses an integrative approach and
has dramatically helped those suffering from cancer, as well as a
variety of other life-threatening diseases, including autoimmune
diseases. He has had training in both Western and Eastern nutrition
and has had much success with "healing
the mind by healing the body." His
therapeutic approach is very similar to that of a life coach in
which he honors one's strengths, rather than
weaknesses. The following three sections - EFT, Spiritual Mentor,
and Health Advisor - will expand these ideas and explain how you
can radically transform your life and your love
relationships.
